Once a person receives their GIN, they can log into the government portal. This portal is designed to have a single place for all of the needs with regards to the government. From the portal, the user will be able to see their GIN, NIN, and setup any GAONs. The person is limited to 5 GAONs, and the GAON is good for 30 days only. This is to reduce the chance of fraudulent usage of the account. Also, they will be encourage to enable 2FA if they hadn’t done so. With 2FA, the person will use an authenticator app (such as K-Wallet).
Assuming the person qualifies, they will be able to apply for social welfare programs such as LIHP, or SNAP. These programs are intended for low-income citizens which means even legal aliens can not apply for social welfare programs, and it would be assumed they are working in the nation. Since every circumstance is different, there will be options to apply for social welfare programs, and there will be a review of the application to decide if the applicant qualifies.
There will also be a contact section which should be filled out as much as possible. This information will provide for resources that would otherwise not be available. This will also account for account recovery services if the person can not log into their account for whatever the reason. Contact information that would be valuable will be address, email address, telephone number, and secondary contact. A secondary contact is a trusted person that can be used to acquire a one time passcode to their telephone number. This information must be assigned ahead of time.
The person will also see all of the companies they have an account with. In addition, they will see the monthly bill that the company charges. This will allow the person the ability to cancel such services that aren’t needed.
